Strength to Love
Martin Luther King proposed a book of sermons in early 1957 to Harpers.
He worked on the sermons during a fortnight in jail in July 1962, having been arrested for holding a prayer vigil outside the Albany City Hall, While behind bars, he was had uninterrupted time to prepare the drafts for the sermons ‘‘Loving Your Enemies,’’ ‘‘Love in Action,’’ and ‘‘Shattered Dreams,’’. He continued to work on the volume after his release.
