I am sorry to be negative but the opening party of the National Conference for Volunteering and Service was a bust.
:(
Held in the exhibit hall, there was no food and nothing to drink. People streamed out. They waited in line for the buses to the hotels for up to half an hour rather than stay in the exhibit area with nothing.
If I was an exhibitor, I would be disappointed. Instead of having several thousand potential visitors, the numbers thinned to hundreds.
There were some people who stopped to listen to the street drummers and make seed kits for Chicago Cares as a service project.
It was nice to connect with old friends - and meet new ones!

Getting food and drink donations for an event is one of the EASIEST things a nonprofit can do, even for such with so many people. And having drinks, and decent food, is Successful Event 101 - who *doesn't* know that?! Harumph.
